Tour the Central Library, 814 W. Wisconsin Ave., with the Friends. Free tours begin at 11 a.m. each Saturday afternoon in the rotunda. Tour goers receive a coupon for a free book at the end of the tour in the Bookseller Store and Café. To arrange for a special tour call (414) 286-TOUR.

Great Beginnings /Great Endings: Starting and Ending Your Novel with a Bang! – 10:30-11:30 am
Discuss ways to grab a reader’s attention and keep it. Bring your favorite first and last line of a novel, and share your own first/last lines with the group for feedback.
Writers Critique Group Meet and Greet – 1-2:30 pm
Heddy Keith, Milwaukee Writers’ Circle, will discuss the critiquing process and how to create and manage your own writers’ critique group. Meet other local writers and discuss your work!
Indie Author Showcase – 3-4:30 pm
Independent authors will share their experiences with the self-publishing and marketing process. Bring your questions! Are you an independent author? Share your experiences!
Sneak Peek of The Rep’s Man of LaMancha
Artists from Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s “Man of La Mancha” will perform songs from the iconic Broadway musical at Central Library, 814 W. Wisconsin Ave., Saturday, October 8, 12-12:30 p.m. Learn more about the Tony Award-winning show based on Cervantes timeless tale of love and adventure, “Don Quixote.”
The Paradox of Being a Black Police Officer in Today’s Society
Officer Corey Saffold is a law enforcement professional in Madison originally from Milwaukee, and is known in the community for his volunteerism and his work with youth of all ages and demographic backgrounds. Officer Saffold will address the paradox of being a Black officer during a time when police are often not trusted, especially among the African-American community. Officer Saffold will offer his strategy for engaging the community at large around issues that have also affected him personally at the Center Street Library, 2727 W. Fond du Lac Ave., Saturday, October 18, 2-3 p.m. This event is brought to you by the Wisconsin Humanities Council.

Dream Keepers Writing Circle
Calling all young writers ages 9-13.
