Capitol Report
By State Representative, Leon D. Young
As many of you know, the partisan primary election was held earlier this week on August 9.
Allow me to express my sincere thanks and utter appreciation for those residents of our community who came out and voted to re-elect me.
I would also like to acknowledge the sacrifice and hard work of my opponents and, in particular Edgar Lin, who ran an excellent campaign in his maiden attempt for public office.
Although I have yet to see the official poll number results from Tuesday’s election, I believe it’s both safe (and necessary to say) that there appears to have been a clear and noticeable racial divide in how voters cast their ballots.
The 16th Assembly District is extremely diverse in terms of its economic makeup.
The residents of our community occupy both the upper and lower ends of the economic spectrum.
Hence, it is important that the individual that advocates for this district in Madison must be committed to representing the interests and concerns of ALL its residents.
With that being said, I pledge to make a concerted effort to reach out and engage with all my constituents: from residents in Riverwest and Brewer’s Hill to denizens of Halyard Park and Highland Gardens. There are a myriad of pressing challenges confronting our community — and nation.
If we are really serious about addressing these concerns and moving ahead, then we must be willing to come together and work collectively for the greater good of all our neighbors.
I stand ready to be your voice in Madison, and pledge that my door will always be open to hear and advocate for you.
