Milwaukee Performing Arts company, Lights! Camera! Soul! cordially invites members of all age groups and interests to join them for award-wining playwright Daniel Beaty’s EMERGENCY. A production with vivid poetry and laughter, but will also touch the tough subjects of race, poverty, homosexuality and more; all for the purpose of building community, fostering healing, and working towards discovery.
The play details the story of a slave ship that emerges in front of the Statue of Liberty in New York City, and sends a community into a massive whirlwind of emotion and exploration through vivid poetry and dynamic storytelling of each characters’ individual response to this surreal happening and their varied testimonies on identity and personal freedom. Emergency weaves a stirring commentary on what it is to be human and the longing to be free.
The cast features, Milwaukee’s own, and UW-Milwaukee BFA Acting student Derrion Brown, Actor Mario Andre, and Actress Pansy Williams. Other Milwaukee artists, will join the cast, to complete the ensemble, and is guaranteed to bring delight to all this Spring. EMERGENCY promises to lift the audience right out of their seats with its dynamic storytelling and it’s beautiful interpretations of what it means to be free.
