Free Chronic Illness Prevention Programs Offered Through Milwaukee County Department of Aging and WIHA

The Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging (WIHA) in partnership with Milwaukee County Department on Aging, is providing free evidence-based prevention programs to promote better self-care in the Milwaukee community.

Healthy Living with Diabetes (HLWD) is evidence-based workshop for people who have diabetes or care for someone with diabetes.

This workshop meets for 2-1/2 hours a week for six weeks.

Classes are highly participative and help build participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health condition and maintain active and fulfilling lives.

Living Well is a evidence-based workshop for people who have one or more chronic conditions.

A chronic condition is an on-going health problem or disease such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, and other long-term problems. This workshop meets for 2-1/2 hours a week for six weeks.

Classes help build participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health condition to maintain active and fulfilling lives.

Stepping On is designed specifically for people who are: 1) at risk of falling, 2) have a fear of falling, or 3) who have fallen one or more times. Participants meet for 2 hours a week for seven weeks. Classes help build participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health behaviors, reduce their risk of falls, and maintain active and fulfilling lives.
