March 19, 2016

The Social Development Commission recently fi led a lawsuit to keep the County from moving ahead with energy assistance contracts for UMOS and Community Advocates.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – March 18, 2016 – The Social Development Commission (SDC) will open the doors to its new office located at 1730 West North Avenue, Milwaukee, on Monday, March 28. The agency provides diverse services and programs to meet the needs of thousands of low-income individuals each year.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is the ONLY program that will remain at the former SDC office (4041 North Richard Street, Milwaukee). The VITA program will operate at the Richards Street location through the end of the tax season, Monday, April 18.

All other SDC services including business services, career services, education and training, health and wellness, residential, youth, young adult, and adult service will continue programming and services in the new location on Monday, March 28.

The Richards Street location will be closed on March 24 and March 25 due to the move.

With the move to a new home in the Lindsay Heights neighborhood, SDC will introduce a new look and website. Over the past several months, the agency has been in the rebranding process. The new logo and website, for which the URL will remain www.cr-sdc.org, will be unveiled the week of March 28 after the agency moves into its new home.

For more than 50 years, the Social Development Commission has operated as the Community Action Agency for Milwaukee County. SDC serves as a planner, coordinator, and provider of human service programs for low-income individuals and families residing in Milwaukee County. The agency is an intergovernmental commission and is governed by a board of 18 citizens from Milwaukee County, each of whom hold the title of “Commissioner.” For more information on SDC’s programs and services, visit cr-sdc.org.
