Many local and nationally recognized African American leaders from a spectrum of backgrounds and professions have attended and/or graduated from Historical Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs). County Sup. Khalif Rainey (Southern A&M University) City of Milwaukee Administration Director, Steven Mahan, (Rust College) Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (Morehouse College), 6th district Alderwoman Milele Coggs and W.E.B. DuBois (Fisk University) are just a few.
Why does this matter?
HBCUs offer more than academics but a sense of heritage while connecting to the concerns of the Black community, and an experience in a nurturing atmosphere.
You are cordially invited to attend a panel discussion about enhancing the pipeline of professional graduates from Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) to Milwaukee, especially those with degrees in engineering, information technology teacher certification, or degrees in health care related fields.
The panel discussion will take place from 8:00 to approximately 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3rd at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center Hotel, Empire Ballroom, 509 West Wisconsin Avenue.
The panel discussion features Dr. Logan Hampton, President, Lane College; and Dr. Kara Turner, Associate Provost for Enrollment Management & Student Academic Support Services, Morgan State University.
We hope you will be able to join us for this “Enhancing the Pipeline” event, which is one part of the Milwaukee Education Partnership’s HBCU Conference taking place in Milwaukee June 1 – 3, 2015.
Please RSVP by Monday, June 1st to Janice Hagen either via E-mail at hagenjl@milwaukee.k12.wi.us or phone at 414-988-9034.
