Capitol Report
By State Representative, Leon D. Young
The legislative season has begun in earnest.
At the time this article was written, Governor Scott Walker had yet to deliver his first State of the State Address of his second term.
However, there was considerable speculation as to what topics would be highlighted.
If previous addresses are any indication, Walker will undoubtedly spend a good deal of time pontificating about all that has been accomplished on his watch as chief executive.
Four years ago, he proudly pledged that “Wisconsin was open for business.”
Over the course of his first term, he repeatedly made good on that promise, to the detriment of countless hardworking, middle-class families in our state.
One thing seems fairly certain at this point, Walker definitely has bigger aspirations in mind.
He has taken the liberty of retaining a high-powered political strategist who is very familiar the inner workings of presidential politics.
Moreover, Walker has already stated that he plans to attend an early forum for GOP presidential hopefuls in Iowa later this month.
Hence, it would appear that the presidential dance is on for Scott Walker.
However, another (more telling!) question remains: Can he actively pursue his dream of running for the White House, while paying full attention and due diligence to running our state?
