“Yesterday is History. Tomorrow is a Mystery. Today is a Gift. That is why we call it the present.” Author unknown

The holiday season is in full swing, as you enjoy family events and special celebrations, keep in mind that the best gifts are the ones bestowed on those who are in need.

So often we think of holidays as a time to give special gifts to those who are nearest to our hearts. It’s easy to give gifts to those we love, respect, and adore.

However, it is during the holidays that those who are unfortunate suffer the most.

Holidays should serve as a reminder that there is an opportunity to make a contribution in your community every day of the calendar year.

You and your family can make a significant difference by giving the gift of time, patience, kindness and compassion to those who are in dire need of assistance.

This is was the holidays are truly about; the spirit of giving and love don’t cost us a penny and often are the gifts that create memories that will last a lifetime for the giver and the receiver.

In the 4th Senate District, there are countless ways that you can impact our community.

Local food banks, youth facilities, convalescent homes, and homeless shelters need you to come down and lend a helping hand.

Other non-profit associations depend on recyclables, gently-used or new clothes, household products and home items in order to create jobs, housing, education and training opportunities for those in need.

If each of us makes a commitment to help just one stranger, neighbor, or charitable organization this season we will build a stronger more vibrant community.

Please consider extending a hand to improve the quality of our education system, health, employment and the economic development of our neighborhoods.

It only takes one act of kindness to build bridges of hope and inspiration in others.

May you and your families enjoy peace, love, and the true spirit of the holiday season—now and throughout the New Year.
