President Obama’s last visit to Labor Fest was in 2010.
According to a press release from the White House Press Office, President Obama held a speech on how to improve Milwaukee’s railways, roads and runways while planning to expand on various infrastructure.
Labor Fest is a two day event that begins on Sunday, Aug. 31. According to Milwaukee Events, this year’s theme is Coalition of Justice.
The event will take place at Henry Maier Festival Park from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
This family friendly event will be open to the public and will include various activities for adults and children to enjoy. The day will begin with a parade at Zeidler Union Square at 11 a.m. that stretches to Summerfest Grounds. Various food and shop vendors will be available as well as entertainment acts on two stages.
For children, there will be clown and magic shows, basketball contests, bingo and union industry displays. For adults, classic car shows and adult bingo are just a few of the activities that will be present. A Union Industries Show will share information on what labor unions do and explore the many businesses who employ union labor.
Labor Fest was established in 1991 to honor working citizens and volunteers.
Behind Labor Fest is the Milwaukee Area Labor Council, an organization fighting for economic and social justice within the work place.
According to the Milwaukee Labor website, MALC fights for family-supported wages, health care, environmental safety and basic laws that protect basic rights.
