Hines becomes associate director of Housing Authority

willie-hines-jrMayor Tom Barrett announced last week Alderman Willie L. Hines, Jr. will become the associate director of the Housing Authority.

Hines will be responsible for the day to day operations of the Housing Authority’s affordable housing portfolio.

He will report to secretary/ executive director of the Housing Authority Tony Perez.

“I appreciate the working relationship I have had with Common Council president Willie Hines.

Alderman Hines will now be tackling new challenges as the associate director of the Milwaukee Housing Authority,” Mayor Barrett said.

“Having served as Chair of the Milwaukee Housing Authority since 1997, Alderman Hines understands the regulatory and business environment in which the Housing Authority operates.

More importantly, Alderman Hines has deep Milwaukee roots; he is a great advocate for all residents of our city and a champion of building a stronger Milwaukee.

There is no question that Alderman Hines will be an excellent and strong addition to our Housing Authority team.”

Alderman Hines has served on the Housing Authority Board of Commissioners since 1996 and became chair of the board in September of ‘97.

During that time the Housing Authority has led a revitalization of its housing developments, including all five of its large family neighborhoods.

The Housing Authority also received the received the World Leadership Award in 2005 for its model of affordable housing that transforms neighborhoods.

Alderman Hines began his new job at the Housing Authority on Monday, February 3, 2014.
