MAWIB staff can help new unemployment claimants register with Wisconsin Job Service; as of October 13, new claimants MUST register to receive benefits
To support awareness of Workforce Development Month (September), the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board (MAWIB) has planned activities to give job seekers additional access to services with extended Resource Room hours and added support through scheduled job readiness classes, including interviewing skills and resume writing.
For more information, call (414) 270-1732 or visit MAWIB’s Resource Room, located at 2342 N. 27th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53210.
National Workforce Development Month is a nationwide initiative to recognize the importance of workforce services, and the professionals who deliver them, to improve the area’s economy.
MAWIB’s goal in September is to offer more opportunities to support job seekers in their employment search efforts.
“We are adding hours and hosting classes in September to provide job seekers with more access to support to help them find employment and receive education and training services,” said MAWIB President and CEO Donald Sykes.
“Milwaukee’s workforce system is addressing the skills gap and getting people back to work.” The MAWIB Resource Room, located at 2342 N. 27th Street, is open to the public daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Throughout September it will be open additionally from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The Resource Room connects job seekers with employment professionals and computers. In addition to services offered, MAWIB staff can help new unemployment claimants register with Wisconsin Job Service. As of October 13, people recently unemployed must register on the state’s job search site within 14 days of their claim to receive benefits.
Overall services include: assistance with resume writing and interview preparation and access to computers for job leads, Internet employment searches and employer information.
Resume writing and job readiness classes-open to the public throughout the month
Supportive classes to help people with their job search and to be prepared once they are employed will be held throughout the month.
For men planning to attend the Milwaukee Fatherhood Initiative event in October, these classes are strongly encouraged.
