2nd Annual Health Empowerment Event to be held this Saturday

August 17, 2013

Learn all about health and wellness at the 2nd Annual Health Empowerment Event being held this Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10 am-2 pm at St. Jeanne Gengler Park, located at 50th and Burleigh Streets in Milwaukee across from Wheaton Franciscan-St. Joseph Campus.

In 2012, three young men died of heart complications while receiving care at the Wheaton Franciscan – St. Joseph Campus Emergency Department. These events inspired Ernest Colburn, Registered Nurse and Patient Care Supervisor at St. Joseph’s Emergency Department to empower people in the community to be proactive when it comes to managing their health.

Prior to the event there will be opportunities to speak with Ernest Colburn, founder of the event and Simeon Henderson, brother of one of the men who passed in 2012.

This event promotes unity in the community while it offers people in the community an opportunity to learn all about health and wellness at this fun informal educational event led by local health and wellness experts.

Visit with experts at interactive booths, ask questions about your health, and pick up valuable strategies for living a healthy life;

The event will offer: Stroke and heart attack awareness, Blood pressure and Body Mass Index (BMI) Screening, Ask the doctor, healthy eating and lifestyle information, Diabetes education, Chronic illness resources, hands on CPR information, foot health information, Behavioral Health resources, health care related financial counseling and Survive Alive house.

Event sponsors for this event are: Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, Communty Connect and Managed Healthcare. For more information call: 1-888-994-3286.
