Milwaukee Health Services, Inc. (MHSI) and the WIC program will sponsor the Wisconsin WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program on July 23, 2013 at the MLK- Heritage Health Center location at 2555 N. MLK Drive. The market will be open to the public from 8am-2pm every Tuesday through the end of October.
WIC is a federally funded nutrition program for Women, Infants, and Children. Angie Wilks-Tate, WIC Project Director at MHSI states the goals of the WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program are:
• to provide WIC participants with checks to purchase locally-grown fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs at farmers’ markets;
• to provide WIC participants with nutrition education and the resources to encourage the consumption of fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs; and
• to increase the awareness and utilization of farmers’ markets.
MHSI is a Federally Qualified Health Center partnering with WIC to promote wellness and good health among women and their young children as well as improve their overall growth and development.
The mission of MHSI is to provide accessible, quality primary and related health care services to Milwaukee residents, with the continuing emphasis on medically-underserved families and individuals.
MHSI operates the Martin Luther King, Jr. Heritage Health Center at 2555 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and Isaac Coggs Heritage Health Center at 8200 W. Silver Spring Drive.
