On Saturday April 20, 2013 Urban Grass Roots I.N.C. collaborated with Wisconsin League of Young Voters, Village of Hope, Boys of Summer Home Improvement, and Burleigh Food & Car Wash to celebrate the 3rd Annual Earth Day event. There were over 60 volunteers ranging from elders supervising the process to young children playing in the bounce house. Children learn best through their everyday experiences with the people they love and trust, and when the learning is fun, the best place for these experiences is outdoor in the garden. Those who participated during the Urban Grass Roots I.N.C. Earth Day event received breakfast and lunch, a variety of flower seeds, pots of pansy or perennial flowers and a beautiful signed Appreciation Certificate, and also the good feeling of helping clean and beautify our community. “Teaching children about the natural world should be seen as one of the most important events in their lives.” Priscilla Coggs-Jones founder of Urban Grass Roots I.N.C. We witnessed the true meaning of “it takes a village to raise a child”, this was an spectacular event, the weather didn’t affect our goal, and we were VERY successful in our block clean ups and beautification.
