Walnut Way Neighborhood Lift Up 2013 to be held on April 20

March 16, 2013

Please Join Us! The Neighborhood Lift Up is an annual event in the Walnut Way neighborhood in which we shake off the winter blues and welcome the renewing energy of spring. Attended by residents, community partners, and friends, the event is a celebration of new life and preparation for growth.

The activities of clean up and gardening are tools we use to promote shared responsibility and the collective action that is needed to make lasting change.

The day begins at 10 a.m. at the Walnut Way Center (2240 N. 17th Street) with an orientation and tour of the Walnut Way campus and neighborhood. The day continues with planting in the gardens and orchards, an environmental education activity for youth, coffee and snacks, and a good old-fashioned neighborhood spring cleaning. We ask that volunteers work at least two hours after the mandatory orientations.

Volunteer Opportunities

— Preparing garden beds for planting

— Creating colorful flowers with kids

— Tidying up city streets with neighbors

The schedule for the event is as follows:

10:00 a.m. – Volunteer Check-In and Mandatory Orientation to the Neighborhood

(2240 N. 17th Street)

11:00 a.m. – Gardening & Clean Up and Children’s Art Activities begin

2:45 p.m. – Wrap Up Activities

3:00 p.m. – Neighborhood Blessing and Closing Remarks (2240 N. 17th Street)

· Elected Officials in Attendance

· Larry and Sharon Adams

Family and friends are welcome to join us for the day. You may wish to wear old shoes and clothing and bring gloves and a refillable water bottle.
