Best-selling author Wes Moore to present “Empowering Our Youth” at MATC’s downtown Milwaukee Campus March 14

March 9, 2013

Wes Moore

New York Times and Wall Street Journal best-selling author Wes Moore will present a free, public lecture and offer a book signing Thursday, March 14, in the Main Building at Milwaukee Area Technical College’s Downtown Milwaukee Campus, 1015 N. 6th St. Moore will speak from 6-7 p.m. on “Empowering Our Youth” in Cooley Auditorium (Room M203) and will sign copies of his book The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates from 7:30-9 p.m. in Room 605.

The book is the true story of two young men with the same name growing up in the same neighborhood at the same time. One became a Rhodes scholar, decorated war hero, White House fellow, youth advocate, host of “Beyond Belief” on the Oprah Winfrey Network and a successful businessman. The other ended up serving a life sentence for murder. The book examines the factors and choices that led to the drastically different outcomes in each man’s life.

Moore also will meet with students and employees during afternoon events. The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates has been incorporated into the curriculum for many MATC courses this semester. His visit is sponsored by the Milwaukee Area Technical College Foundation, Inc., and MATC’s Office of Education, Research and Dissemination.
