Travis Academy student finalists in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Speech Contest

Pictured above are the Martin Luther King Speech Contest finalists, Andrew Brantner from Travis Technology High School, 10th grade, Jessica Lockhart and Xavier Smith 11th grade from Travis Vocational High School.

Three of Travis Academy students advanced to the final round for the 29th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Speech Contest for the 2012-2013 school year. The students are Jessica Lockhart, 10th grade Andrew Brantner from Travis Technology High School and Xavier Smith 11th grade from Travis Vocational High School.

This was a school-wide project and students not only participated in the speech contest but in writing and art as well.

Jessica Lockhart received a 2nd Place Award for her dynamic and encouraging speech which explored the theme of “Fair Play, Goodwill and Justice”. All three of the finalists will share their speeches with the schools and the community during the Black History Month celebrations.

Jessica received her award during the Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday celebration on Sunday, January 20, 2013, at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts to accept her award.
