Ayzha Gallery to feature local photographer

January 12, 2013

Ayzha Fine Arts, one of the Shops of Grand Avenue Mall, 275 West Wisconsin Avenue, will sponsor and open hour from noon to 4 p.m. this Saturday, January 12. Featured artist on this occasion will be Milwaukee photographer Al Brown who has traveled the country taking pictures of numbers for a calendar that he is creating.

Brown has traveled to 20 states in search of numbers with interesting typefaces and hopes to eventually travel to all 50. His standard-size calendar is 13.5 by 11 inches to include news summaries and commentaries.

He began his photographic career photographing family, baby, and wedding portraits in his native hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. Upon his move to Denver, Colorado, he worked as a freelance wedding photographer for several years and later opened a portrait studio in Aurora, Colorado.

The photographer moved to Milwaukee in 2002 and works as a freelance photographer while also working on his special calendar project that he started in 1991. In 2001, he published his first volume of his idea for this concept titled “Pictures of Numbers” which employs actual photographs of numbers configured in a calendar format.

His “Pictures of Numbers” has been continually published since 2000 and is distributed by Raindog Publishing, a small independent publishing house created in 1998 by Brown.

Ayzha Fine Arts Gallery & Boutique had its grand opening in November of 2012. Displayed for purchase are original and multicultural artwork from local, national and global artists in addition to an assortment of cards, books, prints, jewelry and organic hair products.

The January 12 event is in conjunction with other stores in the Grand Avenue which will also hold an open house.

For additional information on Al Brown or on Ayzha, please contact the gallery at (414) 220-4355.
