Timing right for Energy Assistance Application

December 1, 2012

Analisa Wojcik of SDC Chase Avenue helps a resident with her Energy Assistance application.

If you are struggling with your utility bills and don’t want to wait in line, now is the time to apply for Energy Assistance.

The Energy Assistance Program coordinated in Milwaukee County by the Social Development Commission (SDC) is being offered to income-eligible residents through May 15 of 2013. Typically, demand for the program is heaviest in early fall and again late in the spring. During the spring months when the moratorium cut-off for utility is lifted and services begin to be disconnected, lines for the program can grow long.

Now is the time, says Sandra White who is SDC Energy Assistance Program Manager, to come to one of three SDC sites. There she says residents will be able to access the program that helps pay a portion of energy costs. The three sites to apply for Energy Assistance are at 4041 N. Richards Street, 2701 S. Chase Street (Suite D), and 6848 N. Teutonia Avenue. All sites are open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm except on holidays.

For information on eligibility requirements and what you will need to bring to apply, call the SDC Energy Assistance Hotline at 414-906-2800 or visit http://www.cr-sdc.org/Programs/EnergyAssistance.htm. To set up a home visit for the program, residents can call Community Advocates at 414-875-2009.
