The regular season for Energy Assistance Program begins October 1. But some Milwaukee County households are being offered the chance to apply for the help before that date.
Early applications for Energy Assistance are being taken at all regular program sites for households with at least one household member who receives income from Social Security. The early start is intended to allow eligible seniors and disabled seeking the help with paying their utility bills to get into a site early. Site locations are at Social Development Commission (SDC) offices at 2701 S. Chase, 4041 N. Richards and 6848 N. Teutonia as well as the Community Advocates office at 728 N. James Lovell.
Applicants for Early Energy Assistance need to bring a photo ID if they are first-time applicants, Social Security cards for everyone in the household, a current energy bill, income verification for the last three months for all members of the household, and a statement from the landlord if heat is included in the rent.
For more information on the Early Energy Assistance application process or to make an appointment, call SDC at 414-906-2800 or Community Advocates at 414-875-2009. Or visit the SDC website at http://www.cr-sdc.org/, click on the “Programs” page and then the link for Energy Assistance.
