DISTRICT BOARD MEMBER POSITION VACANCIES
Applications for three positions on the Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) District Board are now being accepted. Applicants must be residents of the District.
With three-year terms expiring June 30, 2015, the following is a synopsis of the qualifications needed for the three appointments based on state statutes and MATC’s District Plan of Representation:
- One member must be an Employer Representative
- One member must be an Employee Representative
- One member must be a School District Administrator
- The Employer or Employee Representative must be female and the other member may be male or female
- One of the three representatives must be a minority and reside in the city of Milwaukee
A “School District Administrator” is defined as the school district superintendent, supervising principal or other person who acts as the administrative head of a school district located in the MATC District.
An “Employer Member” is defined as any person who receives earnings as payment for personal services and possesses the power to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline other employees, or adjust employee grievances, or effectively recommend such action, if in connection with the exercise of such power the person exercises independent judgment in relation to the power. Employer does not include a person acting in the capacity of officer or agent of a labor organization.
An “Employee Member” is defined as any person who is not an employer and who receives earnings as payment for personal services, and includes a person acting in the capacity of officer or agent of a labor organization.
Board Members are not paid, except for expenses incurred in the performance of their duties.
In the appointment process, equal consideration is given to the general population distribution within the MATC District and the distribution of women and minorities. In addition, equal consider¬ation is given to the distribution of minorities within the City of Milwaukee.
Applicants must complete and submit the required application form and submit at least two letters of reference supporting their nomination to the District Board, and attend a public hearing of the District Board Appointment Committee at which time they will be interviewed.

Applications must be received by Dr. Michael Bonds, Chair, MATC District Board Appointment Committee, c/o Desma Madison, Office of the General Counsel, Milwaukee Area Technical College District, 700 West State Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53233-1443, no later than 4:30 p.m. on February 22, 2012, in Room M278. Reference letters must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on March 2, 2012, in Room M278.
The public hearing and meeting of the MATC District Board Appointment Committee is scheduled for Saturday, March 17, 2012, at 9:00 a.m. A legal notice announcing the candidates and the time and location for the meeting will be published during the week of February 27, 2012.
