The public is invited to attend this year’s King Day Celebration at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, 1531 W. Vliet Street on Monday, Jan. 16 with a program at 2:30 pm. The guest speaker will be Thelma Sias, Vice President of Local Affairs with WE Energies.
This year’s King Day Celebration will feature dance, music and spoken word in a salute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Please join Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, County Board Chairman Lee Holloway, County Supervisor Eyon Biddle Sr. and Milwaukee County Parks Director Sue Black to an afternoon in honor of Dr. King.
In 1964, Martin Luther King became the youngest man in history to receive The Nobel Peace Prize. He was one of the first people in the Western world to lead a struggle for civil rights and equality without violence. In 1994 Congress passed the King Holiday and Service Act, designating the King Holiday as a national day of volunteer service.
