The Martin Luther King Economic Development Corporation is hosting another Gallery Night on Friday, January 20, 2012 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. and January 21, 10 to 1p.m., at the King Drive Commons Gallery and Studio, located at 2775 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Drive.
This Gallery Night on King Drive will feature and celebrate Master Artist Sylvester S. Sims, one of Milwaukee’s finest treasures and one of Wisconsin’s most prolific artist who taught himself how to paint.. Mr. Sims will show his artwork in oil, watercolor and charcoal. His work is exhibited and collected throughout the nation and internationally
He grew up in the Bronzville community and has paintings of the neighborhood from back in the day. He won the Bronzville swimming and diving competition. And in 1944 he won the state’s AAU High Diving Championship the first Black man in the state’s history to win. His theme called, “An Amazing Journey”, takes us on a historical tour through his art work of various people, places, and items you too may identify with.
Entertainment will include live music by Larry Moore Jazz Trio, a preview of a play “ To Kill a Mocking Bird”, presented by Hansberry Sands Theater Company and culinary delights provided by B.R. Catering.
This event is free and open to the public. All donations are greatly appreciated. Our past Gallery Night events have brought hundreds of people together to view dynamic and emerging artists with particular emphasis on African American Artwork. Come and join us in continuing to support the development stronger arts and cultural presence in the neighborhood!
