Columbia St. Mary’s Center to hold free prostate screenings

January 5, 2012

1 in 5 African American men in the United States will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. And, while these statistics can be scary, if found early prostate cancer is treatable and beatable.

Thomas Tillman of Milwaukee tells all the guys he knows, “ Don’t be afraid to get checked out. You just got to follow through.” Thomas was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010 after attending a screening event held by Columbia St. Mary’s Cancer Center. Today he is cancer free and walks more than 2 hours a day. Thomas is the first to tell his friends and loved ones to get their prostate checked. He says, “what I learned is that without knowing early, this cancer can be devastating.”

That’s why Columbia St. Mary’s Cancer Center is holding a free prostate screening event at the Clinton Rose Senior Center at 3045 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Drive on Tuesday, January 24th from noon to 3:00 pm. Walk in’s are welcome and screenings are first come first served.

Know your status. Get screened for prostate cancer.
