I recently participated in the Wisconsin Wins Program to do my part to decrease illegal tobacco sells to minors. Another youth and I went into the store and attempted to buy tobacco products. If the sales clerk sold us a tobacco product, we reported the sell to the police officer assigned to our team. If they did not sell us a tobacco product, they received a Wisconsin Wins sticker in appreciation for them obeying the law. I enjoyed working with this program. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that stores already had Wisconsin Wins stickers, showing that they are against selling teens tobacco.
I was happy to work with this program because I am a senior in high school, and I value helping my peers make healthy decisions. If we can figure out which areas are selling tobacco, we can gradually decrease the amount of teens who have access to tobacco. This would mean a lot to me because I would like to see the youth grow to be something special and contribute something positive to the world.
