PHOTO OF THE WEEK – Children work with local artists at GarveyFest

September 10, 2011

PHOTO OF THE WEEK

GarveyFest Celebration returned on Aug. 19-20 at the Wisconsin Black Historical Society, 2620 W. Center Street. The two day event included a video clip on the systemic crisis plaguing our youth and their families. Organizations such as Running Rebels, Campaign Against Violence, NAACP, The Black Health Coalition of WI, League of Youth Voters, Socialist Workers Party, Urban Underground and others discussed the many problems that affect our people and pose solutions for them. The second day was kicked off with a parade followed by cultural performances, and children had the opportunity to work with local artists as shown above on artwork. (Photo by Robert A. Bell)
