This week, the NAACP announced that president and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous will speak at the National Action Network’s (NAN) The Emancipator (Abraham Lincoln) To the Liberator (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) Official Rally & March on Saturday, August 27th 2011, in Washington, DC.
“This is an historic moment in civil rights and American history,” stated President Jealous. “I look forward to honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King on the eve of the unveiling of his national memorial.”
The rally, scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm on the National Mall, will be led by National Action Network President Rev. Al Sharpton, and will feature other prominent leaders, including National Urban League President Marc Morial, AFL-CIO President Randi Weingarten, District of Columbia Mayor Vincent C. Gray, and radio personalities Michael Baisden and Tom Joyner.
“The work of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is not over. The civil rights community must ensure that his dream becomes a reality,” stated Jealous. The rally will be carried live on both MSNBC and CNN.
