African World Festival returns again this year with a daylong event featuring entertainment, activities and food for the entire family. Known as “The Meeting Place” African World Festival is not only an entertaining event but an educational experience. Come and explore the cultural village, sample a variety of ethnic foods, shop around the Marketplace, let the kids play in the Children’s Village and enjoy lots of great entertainment.
African World Festival is a celebration of African heritage and culture held on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan at Maier Festival Park in Milwaukee, WI. Since its inception in 1982, the festivals mission has been to promote and share the culture and heritage of all people of African descent with the global community.
This year’s event will have a star-studded line up: National acts such as Charlie Wilson will return along with Norman Brown, Marion Meadows, Roy Ayers, and Walter Beasley performing on the Miller Jazz Oasis Stage.
Clarence Carter, Floyd Taylor, Ms. Jody and O.B. Buchana will perform at the Harley Stage. And gospel sensation Fred Hammond will be featured at the Briggs Stage at 9:00 p.m.
Local entertainment such as Christopher’s Project, and Larry Moore will also perform at the Miller Stage. And the other stages will feature local talent as well in dance, poetry and local gospel talent.
Tickets for this year’s festival are $12.00 in advance and $17.00 at the gate. Tickets can be purchased at the following locations throughout the city; African World Festival Offices located at Grand Avenue Mall, Lena’s Grocery Stores, Carter’s Drugs, Chase Bank Tower, Christian Fellowship Church, Columbia Savings & Loan, First Impressions Barbershop and Gee’s Clippers. Children under 6 years-old are admitted free.
