This month NMSBank President Erbert Johnson was featured in the nationally recognized publication titled Who’s Who in Black Milwaukee: The Inaugural Edition. President Johnson was also appointed to serve on the Long-Range Lakefront Planning Committee in Milwaukee, WI this May. The Who’s Who in Black Milwaukee publication was designed to document the outstanding accomplishments of African Americans that are serving the Milwaukee community. In the publication,

Johnson notes that despite his mother and father not attending college, they understood its importance and instilled appreciation for the value of an education in he and his siblings. Johnson received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin Madison. He majored in accounting and became a certified public accountant ( CPA ). Before becoming the president of NMSBank in 2008, Johnson served as senior vice president/director of Key Banc Capital Markets. As an investment banker, Johnson advised both Ohio and national public entities on raising capital through bond offerings for facility expansion and ongoing operations. During his time at NMSBank, Johnson has secured over $3 million in competitive grants to fund local community efforts, $12 million in new business, and has managed to generate a profit each year, despite the tough obstacles banks are facing today.

With regard to recently being appointed to serve on the Long-Range Lakefront Planning Committee, Johnson states, “Growing up in Milwaukee and seeing my first concert at Summerfest gives me a historic perspective of our great lake front. Having traveled the world to participate in leisure and business endeavors gives me a clear vision on what the lakefront can become!” The purpose of the Long-Range Lakefront Planning Committee is to develop a common vision for the future of Milwaukee’s lakefront.

A final plan for Milwaukee’s lakefront along with recommendations for O’Donnell Park and the Downtown Transit Center will be submitted to the County Board by December 2012. In addition to this new responsibility, Johnson was appointed to be a board member of the Milwaukee Rotary Club this past April. Despite the many milestones he has achieved during his career, in the future, Johnson says he looks to finally make what is envisioned for the city become a reality. “Having been fortunate enough to experience all sectors of the community will allow me to help bridge the gap.”
