AKA Diamond Jubilee Pearls Foundation to host brunch on May 21

May 7, 2011

The Diamond Jubilee Pearls Foundation of Upsilon Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (R) is sponsoring its Second Annual Mother and Daughter Brunch 2011. This event is a culmination of our Emerging Pearls Enrichment Program that celebrates the achievements of women and girls. The program cultivates unique mentoring relationships and friendships between program participants and workshop facilitators.

The Diamond Jubilee Pearls Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization and funds raised by this event will be used for scholarships and service projects.

Program activities are aligned with our Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s National Program (Emerging Young Leaders Initiative). The keynote brunch speaker is Kim Coles, nationally known actress, comedian and author, host of “My Black is Beautiful.” Ms. Coles is the creator of the G.I.F.T.S. Program (Gratitude, Intention, Forgiveness, Triumphs, and Self Love). The Emerging Pearls Enrichment Program is for girls in grades 6-8th year in school. Program workshops and activities for the Emerging Pearls include the G.I.F.T.S. Program, financial literacy for parents and girls, community service projects, field trip to local college, reading challenge, career exploration, health and wellness, self esteem, etiquette session, photo shoot and more!

The Diamond Jubilee Pearls Foundation of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Upsilon Mu Omega Chapter was established in 2003 to provide high school and college scholarships to students in the city of Milwaukee. In addition to awarding scholarships, the foundation also financially supports all the community service projects sponsored by Upsilon Mu Omega Chapter: AKA Money Camp, Family Fun Day, MLK Day of Service, Breast Cancer Walk/Run and numerous other service projects. We have provided over $40,000.00 worth of scholarships to the Milwaukee community. The funds raised from the Mother and Daughter Brunch also make it possible for Upsilon Mu Omega Chapter to sponsor various community service projects at no cost to families in the city of Milwaukee.

The Mother and Daughter Brunch will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 10am at the Hilton Garden Inn-Park Place located at 11600 West Park Place, Milwaukee, WI 53224.
