By Wisconsin Democratic Party Black Caucus Chair, Stephanie Findley
Jeff Stone has represented Greendale, WI in the State Assembly for the last 12 years.
At no point during his time as State Representative has Jeff Stone made any serious attempts to reach out to the African American community to talk about the issues. Stone has authored and co-sponsored divisive partisan legislation, such as the Voter ID bill and budgets that slash transit funding and public education, which has a direct and deleterious effect on the quality of life of all Wisconsinites, and especially impacts the African American community.
It is an insult to our community to have him now show up and pretend he cares about our issues because he wants to be County Executive and wants our votes. Our votes are not for sale and he has not cared enough about us to develop a relationship beforehand.
Webster’s Dictionary defines a pawn as, “one that can be used to further the purposes of another.” Speaking at this past Saturday’s Community Brainstorming conference Stone stated that he and Walker shared the same philosophical views, and he has previously stated that he would follow the Walker “template” as Milwaukee County Executive. By his own admission, Jeff Stone is Scott Walker‘s pawn. If Stone is elected, it is certain that he will follow in Walker’s footsteps sacrificing Milwaukee County in order to advance a personal political agenda.
Milwaukee County took a beating under Walker’s administration. Jeff Stone’s continuation of Scott Walker’s policies would further drain our resources, diminish community services and take money from our wallets and pocket books.
Jeff Stone lacks real leadership abilities and has proven that he is willing to do and say anything to get elected. Because he knows the African American community, which he has long neglected, will play a key role in electing the next Milwaukee County Executive, Stone’s campaign has even gone so far as to illegally use photos of key African Americans to give the impression that he has the support of our community.
Jeff Stone has clearly demonstrated that his judgment and actions are not what we need as the next Milwaukee County Executive. Please stand with me and cast a vote for Chris Abele for Milwaukee County Executive on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, because we can’t tell the difference between philosophical twins Scott Walker and Jeff Stone.
