Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board (MAWIB) has prompted a National Workforce Day of Action to educate the public on how the federal budget cuts being proposed will adversely affect the Milwaukee area, Southeast Wisconsin and the nation. The day will bring together employers, MAWIB’s community and business participants, and Congresswoman Gwen Moore and Senator Herb Kohl’s offices.
Don Sykes, CEO of MAWIB; Francisco Sanchez, president of WOW Workforce Development Board; representatives from Congresswoman Gwen Moore and Senator Herb Kohl’s offices; and MAWIB’s participants, community and business partners. The event will take place on Thursday, March 24, 10:30 a.m. at the MAWIB offices located at 2324 N. 27th Street, Room 116.
The funding for workforce development programs will be significantly reduced if the proposed cuts by the House of Representatives are passed through Congress in the coming weeks. These funds are essential to maintaining local workforce capacity that creates jobs. With the funding in jeopardy, MAWIB’s resources to help people find jobs and to train them for today’s demanding workforce will decline, as well as the chances for a full, speedy economic recovery in the City of Milwaukee and Southeast Wisconsin.
