Teach For America founder and CEO goes “On the Issues” with Mike Gousha at Marquette Law School

March 5, 2011

Wendy Kopp, the founder and CEO of Teach For America, will be the next guest for “On the Issues with Mike Gousha” at Marquette University Law School, Tuesday, March 8, at 7 p.m., at Eckstein Hall, 1215 W. Michigan St.

The event can also be seen live online. “On the Issues” events are streamed live at the following website, which also contains a catalog of past guests.

Kopp, who founded Teach For America with the goal of closing the achievement gap in America’s education system, will speak about what she believes can be done to improve achievement levels among low-income students in America. Kopp will also speak about her new book, “A Chance to Make History: What Works and What Doesn’t in Providing an Excellent Education for All,” which profiles highly successful TFA corps members and their strategies to produce results in the classroom.

Teach For America expanded to Milwaukee in 2009. Marquette’s College of Education is one of two local schools providing coursework for the corps members that will enable them to complete Wisconsin’s teacher licensure requirements and earn a master’s degree in education in two years.

Gousha, distinguished fellow in law and public policy and an award-winning journalist, continues his “On the Issues” series of provocative and insightful interviews with local and national public officials, journalists and other newsmakers throughout the year. A complete schedule is available online.
