Putting the community in the driver’s seat

November 6, 2010

4th Annual Symposium on Poverty

Community organizations, business people, leaders, faith-based groups, seniors and students are all being sought to weigh in on different aspects of the problem of poverty. The 4th Annual Symposium on Poverty will be held Wednesday, November 10 from 8:30 to 3:30 pm to involve all aspects of the community in the discussion.

The Symposium on Poverty will be held at the Italian Community Center and is being organized by the Social Development Commission. The day will feature a report by UWM that assesses the needs that currently exist in the Milwaukee community.

Presentations will also be made in break-out sessions on a variety of topics with the goal of prompting lively discussions. Topics for those sessions include a 10-year plan to end homelessness in the Milwaukee area, how lead poisoning acts as a barrier to self sufficiency, and developing innovative approaches to job creation for low-income neighborhoods.

The Symposium on Poverty is free and open to the public but space is limited.

Registration can be done via the Social Development Commission website at www.cr-sdc.org or by calling at 414-906-2797.
