Dear Editor,
I would like to applaud the African American media for voicing their support for the NAACP-Milwaukee branch as they took valuable steps towards an accurate count of the Milwaukee population. As a devoted advocate for business development and a better quality of life for our less fortunate African American community, I strongly believe that promoting public awareness around the 2010 Census was more than crucial, especially when associated with the apportioned number of U.S. elected officials’ seats and allocated federal funds for social, economic and business development initiatives.
I tip my hat to Mrs. Jerry Hamilton, President of the NAACPMilwaukee branch, for leading this initiative and winning over households that were procrastinating or not willing to mail their forms back. My hat goes off to Sharon Robinson, Director of the City of Milwaukee Department of Administration and her staff for their diligent efforts.
Our business community is in bad shape, especially in this time of severe depression; and the 2010 census data will definitely impinge on our infrastructure and resources intended for better healthcare, better education, skills development, and employment growth in our great city and state.
Sincerely,
Dester Martin
