Rep. Williams praises Milwaukee NAACP for addressing effigy burning

June 5, 2010

Dear Mrs. Hamilton:

Thank you and the Milwaukee Branch of the NAACP for your actions in addressing the effigy burning, of President Barack Obama, that occurred in the Yester Year Pub & Grill in West Allis, Wisconsin. I believe it is because of the NAACP’s leadership in this matter that law enforcement officials have agreed to conduct a further investigation into the incident.

I too am deeply disturbed and angered by the rising number of blatant occurrences of hate directed towards our country’s first African American President. In fact, I am of the opinion these acts are not about President Obama’s politics or policies, but are aimed at him personally. The Yester Year Pub & Grill incident seems to have gone far beyond a distasteful joke. I believe their actions are acts of terrorism.

I trust that a full and thorough investigation will be conducted to determine whether any crimes were committed, and I am asking others to join the NAACP in the condemning these activities. Enough is enough!

Again, thank you for your leadership. Sincerely,

Annette Polly Williams
WI State Representative
10th Assembly District
