Nikiya Harris was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Master’s Degree in Adult Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Community Education. She also earned a certificate in Nonprofit Management from The Helen Bader Institute for Nonprofit Management. She currently works at The Urban Ecology Center in membership and event planning.
Nikiya has raised three younger siblings since her mother passed away eight years ago. Though it was a challenge to take on such a responsibility at a young age, she would not take any of it back for a second. Her experience makes the issues she fights for deeply personal. She knows first-hand what it is like to rely on public transportation to get her and her family to work, school, and doctor’s appointments. She also knows what it is like to want to spend time with your family in a public park but worry about how clean and safe it is.
Nikiya is called to public service to stand up for the needs of the people of her district. She is a dedicated leader who will be a full-time representative in a way that is honest, dependable.
In April’s 11-way primary, Nikiya Harris worked hard to distinguish herself in a crowded field. Her strong grassroots campaign hit the doors, winning the primary with a dominating 27 percent of the total vote. Now, she’s gearing up for the general election and working even harder, pledging to support secure funding for public transit for job access, to make our parks safe and clean, and to be a full-time Supervisor.
