Since 1998 the Youth Theatre Company has given actors from 7 to 21 years old a chance to sing, dance and perform in big production, Broadway musicals. It became the second home for dozens of young actors who learned teamwork, improved their communication skills, be involved in backstage projects of costuming, lights, sound and sets.
These experiences developed the poise and confidence they need to go out into the world with pride and created friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
The parents of the hundreds of performers and crew members played a vital role over the years, too. They volunteered countless hours in rehearsals and production preparation and donated their money and enthusiasm to the regular “grand rehearsal” dinners that kept the performers going as the opening of the shows approached.
In 2007 the Company joined the Mitchell Street Development Opportunity Corporation (“MSDOC”) to form The Modjeska Theater Project, LLC to acquire the historic Modjeska Theater at 12th and Mitchell and master lease the building to the Company. Unfortunately, over the years, revenue from ticket sales, donations and grants has not been enough to meet rising operations and building expenses.
Therefore, the Board of Directors has voted to cease operations and dissolve the Modjeska Youth Theatre Company. Despite this news, the Modjeska Theater is still open and holding events by other performers. The day-to-day management and operations of the Modjeska Theater building have been taken over by “MSDOC” and it is pursuing the renovation of this historic landmark. We wish them great success and urge the donor community and public at large to give them your support.
The Board of Directors of the Theatre Company wishes to say “THANK YOU” to Milwaukee for the support given to the shows and the kids and families involved over the years, and hopes you share wonderful memories of the productions of the Modjeska Youth Theater Company.
