Obituary for Jori Leflore:
Jori Lauren Leflore was born, October 9, 1997 to the union of Darien and Ptosha Leflore (nee Davis) of Milwaukee, WI . Jori departed this life on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Jori submitted her life to Christ at an early age. She was Christened at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church as an infant and she accepted Christ as her Savior in 2004 at the age of 7. Jori served faithfully as a member of Junior Red Circle, Children’s Church and the Metropolitan Praise Team. Jori was always eager to serve the Lord; she couldn’t wait until she was old enough to join Junior Red Circle and was one of the founding members of The Metropolitan Praise Team.
Jori attended both Glendale and Milwaukee Public Schools, she was currently attending McDowell Montessori School in Milwaukee, WI at the time of her passing.
Jori loved school, her favorite subjects were Reading and Math. Jori was especially proud to become the first 5th grader to be selected as a Peer Mediator. A position traditionally reserved for 6th grade students.
Jori was very family oriented, she wanted to know everything about her family history and Jori would remember every detail. She was especially close to her two brothers Justin and DJ. She and DJ were inseparable, they would play together, go to movies and watch TV. One of their favorite programs was WWE Wrestling, even though Jori would say that “Wrestling was degrading to Women”. Jori enjoyed the conversations she had with her big brother Justin. At an early age Jori would say how much she liked the talks they would share about “life lessons”.
Jori was loved dearly and had close and unique relationships with each of her grandparents, especially her grandfather PawPaw Leflore. When Jori visited, she would hand him his shoes, and off they would go, driving wherever Jori desired. Jori said, she saw her first rainbow with PawPaw. Now they are walking hand–in-hand in Heaven.
Jori was admitted to Children’s Hospital on August 25, 2009 when she was unexpectedly diagnosed with AML Leukemia. Once Jori became ill she leaned on her faith. Jori would recite Proverbs 3:5-6 everyday with her mother. Before many of the multiple procedures and surgeries Jori would say that she wasn’t afraid because she had prayed and she had a “close relationship with God.” Jori was a pillar of strength, she fought a valiant fight and through it all, she never complained!
Jori was a very special girl. She wanted everyone to get along, be happy and at peace. Jori was patient, kind, never envious, didn’t boast, never proud, nor rude, never self seeking or easily angered. Jori exemplified this scripture in I Corinthians. Jori was Love.
Jori leaves to cherish her memory parents, Darien Leflore Sr. and Ptosha Davis Leflore; bothers, Justin Leflore and Darien ‘DJ” Leflore Jr. of Milwaukee, WI; grandparents, Helen Leflore and Patricia Davis of Milwaukee, WI; and Hugh (Carolyn) Davis Jr. of Piperton, TN; greatgrandmother Gracie Greer of Milwaukee, WI; aunt, Vanessa Leflore-Whitelaw of Milwaukee, WI; uncles Rodney (Lisa) Leflore of Milwaukee, WI; and Julian Davis of Nashville, TN; godparents Dorcas Denton, Mildred (Robert) Green, and Philip Holiday of Milwaukee, WI; Margaret Holmes of Canton, MI; Alton and Renee Campbell of Arlington Heights, IL; special cousins Destiny Griffin and Kamala Burks of Milwaukee, WI; Best Friend Neffi Gamez of Milwaukee, WI; and a host of cousins, other loving relatives and friends. Jori was preceded in death by her grandfather Armstrong “June Bug” Leflore Jr.
