State Representative Jason M. Fields (D-Milwaukee) this week thanked his Assembly colleagues for unanimously approving SB 242, a proposal to revise Wisconsin buyers club laws.
“This bill will provide Wisconsin citizens with more options in their purchasing decisions, and will also create jobs in Wisconsin,” Fields said. “I believe this legislation will encourage DirectBuy to locate several stores in Wisconsin.”
DirectBuy, a buyers club with over 165 retail locations throughout the United States and Canada, typically employs 25 to 30 individuals in each store. DirectBuy also conducts significant business with existing Wisconsin based manufactures and suppliers. In 2008, DirectBuy members purchased over $40,000,000 worth of merchandise from Wisconsin-based vendors. More stores should translate into more business with the Wisconsin venders.
“We need to bring more jobs into Wisconsin and replace those that have been lost,” Fields said. “The Wisconsin consumer benefits by having another option for competitive pricing on home furnishings and products, our economy benefits from the jobs being created. It was an honor to work on real job creation legislation.”
