Hupy and Abraham, S.C. receives The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award

January 23, 2010

Jerry Ann Hamilton, President, Milwaukee Branch NAACP and Attorney Jason F. Abraham, Partner, Hupy & Abraham, S.C.

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award was presented to Hupy & Abraham, S.C. at the NAACP Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr./Rosa Parks Celebration held Monday, January 18, 2010 at Metropolitan Baptist Church, 1345 West Burleigh, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Theologians, Dignitaries and Community Leaders from around the city gathered to honor and celebrate the legacy of Dr. King and to acknowledge humanitarian acts of people and organizations in the community who exemplify the principles and teachings of Dr. King.

Hupy & Abraham, S.C. was honored for the law firm’s civil rights work in the community. The award was presented as an expression of appreciation for their contributions of over $100,000 in educational scholarships to the NAACP Scholarship Fund and for the firm’s overall willingness to support the NAACP. “We are proud and honored to receive this award. We continue to try to live up to the legacy of our firm’s founder, another great local civil rights leader, the late Attorney Lloyd Barbee”, said Attorney Jason F. Abraham. Attorney Barbee was instrumental in desegregating schools in Milwaukee. He filed the law suit that ultimately eliminated segregation in Milwaukee Public Schools.

Hupy & Abraham, S.C. began making annual contributions to the NAACP Scholarship Fund more than 10 years ago. Each year the firm donates $10,000 to assist local college or college bound students. 100 percent of the funds go to local youth. Students are allowed to use the money to attend the college or university of their choice.
