MPS Three Choice school selection begins

January 15, 2010

Student Services will be open on three evenings to assist parents

Parents interested in enrolling children in Milwaukee Public Schools for the 2010 school year will be able to make selections beginning on Mon., Jan. 11. The Three Choice school selection period for MPS takes place from Jan. 11 through 29.

MPS Parent and Student Services will be open on three evenings during the school selection period to assist parents and guardians with the enrollment process. The Parent and Student Services Department, at 5225 West Vliet Street, will be open until 7:00 p.m. on three Wednesdays – Jan. 13, 20 and 27 – to enroll students for fall 2010.

MPS enrollment specialists will also participate in the High School Enrollment Fair at the Shops of Grand Avenue, 275 West Wisconsin Avenue, on Sat., Jan. 16. The fair will provide information on more than 27 public and 19 private schools from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

During the Three Choice enrollment period, the City of Milwaukee Health Department will provide free H1N1 flu shots. The shots will be provided at MPS Central Services, on Jan. 13, 20 and 27 (Wednesdays) from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Parents should bring their child’s vaccination records.

“Parents should investigate the many programs and schools MPS offers to find the best educational opportunities for their children,” said Superintendent William G. Andrekopoulos. “We have small or traditional high schools, more K-8 programs, and numerous early childhood programs available to families.”

This is also the time for Milwaukee students to apply for enrollment in the Chapter 220 program. Under that program Milwaukee students are able to apply for a limited number of seats in suburban schools. Applicants for Chapter 220 must apply at MPS Central Services.

Parents and guardians enrolling students in Milwaukee Public Schools should bring proof of address and the parent’s photo identification. Immunization records are needed for new students and the child’s birth certificate is required for students being enrolled in K3, K4, K5 and Grade 1.

Enrollment is available at any Milwaukee Public School during school hours, or at MPS Parent and Student Services. Enrollment information is available by calling (414) 475-8448.
