The deadline to apply for a program that can help residents who are behind with their energy bills is almost here.
Monday, May 16 is the last day Milwaukee County residents can apply for Energy Assistance. Social Development Commission (SDC) sites will be available from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm that day to take last minute applications for Energy Assistance. The Energy Assistance program is offered to help with utility costs for income eligible households which are behind with their utility payments. The deadline is May 16 for regular Energy Assistance only. Sites will continue to take applications for Crisis Assistance as long as funds are available. Crisis Assistance is intended for households who have utility service disconnected or are under threat of disconnection.
SDC operates Energy Assistance sites at 4041 N. Richards Street, 2701 S. Chase Street, and 6848 N. Teutonia Avenue. Applicants can learn more about what they need to bring to those offices by visiting the SDC website at www.cr-sdc.org. Or they can call the Energy Assistance Program Hotline at 414-906-2800.
