Will lead the Policy, Finance, & Personnel Committee
State Senator Lena C. Taylor (D-Milwaukee) has been appointed chair of the Policy, Finance, & Personnel (PFP) Committee of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District (MMSD). The appointment was made by Commission Chair Wallace White and follows Taylor ’s appointment to the MMSD Commission last year by Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.
“I appreciate the honor that Chairman White has given me to lead the Policy, Finance, & Personnel Committee of the Commission,” Taylor noted. “Throughout the coming years MMSD is taking strides to build on efforts to reduce flooding and overflows in the system. The PFP committee is the instrumental group that manages the funding, staffi ng, and policy that governs our work at MMSD.”
MMSD is a regional government agency that provides water reclamation and flood management services for about 1.1 million customers in 28 communities in the Greater Milwaukee Area. The district serves 411 square miles that cover all, or segments of six watersheds. The District is governed by 11 commissioners with taxing authority, and is established by state law.
Taylor commented, “The PFP committee is the primary body for important decisions regarding the district. Beyond contractual work and agreements with other bodies, the PFP committee bears primary responsibility for creating the policy and financing operations that govern the work of the district. I look forward to important work that will strengthen the district’s operations, its financial standing, and improve the service we provide to the Greater Milwaukee area taxpayers.”
Senator Taylor is serving in her second term in the Wisconsin State Senate representing the 4th Senate District, which comprises much of Milwaukee ’s north side and portions of Glendale and Wauwatosa. Taylor serves as ranking Democratic member of the powerful Joint Committee on Finance in the Legislature. In addition, Taylor is a member of the Senate Committee on Economic Development, Veterans & Military Affairs.
