As we begin the New Year, many of us are hopeful that in 2011 our economic recovery will continue and we will be able to reduce the high rate of unemployment that has plagued our city, region and state.
While there may be disagreements as to the best course of action to solve this problem, with the recent Gubernatorial election, many people were pleased to hear that Governor Walker will be making job creation and business development a top priority as he takes office. The success of these efforts are vitally important for our state. As plans and strategies are developed to accomplish these goals, we want the Governor to ensure that opportunities for minority business development are an integral part of the equation. If our economy is to be strong and vibrant, it is essential that all sectors of the community are included in the process.
We are fortunate in Wisconsin because we have a number of Minority Chambers of Commerce and business organizations that are readily available to help with these efforts.
Therefore, we urge the Governor and his Administration to tap into these existing resources. Minority business development can be a tremendous asset to our state economic recovery – by creating greatly needed jobs and helping more people become self-reliant.
