A proposal to possibly locate Corinthian College in a building located at 1311 N. 6th St. in the 6th Aldermanic District may soon gain some measure of attention in the community. The college is working with a local developer to gain required zoning changes that would allow the move, but the matter has been held by the Board of Zoning Appeals for a hearing.
Coggs stated, “I fully supported the move to hold the item, because at this time I am not convinced the proposal is a good fit for that building (located just steps from the Hillside Terrace housing development). I’m hopeful that a public hearing will allow for a substantive vetting of the proposal, as well as the opportunity for neighbors to speak on it. I am withholding judgment on Corinthian College until I conduct further research and have discussions with college representatives”.
Coggs says that she feels that a potential future expansion and its possible effects on Hillside Terrace should the college be given the OK to locate at 1311 N. 6th St. should also be taken into consideration. Hillside residents need to be informed and involved in seeing how future plans could affect them and their homes.
“I am an ardent supporter of higher education, but the proposal is too important to fast track when input from neighbors and community stakeholders is still needed. I look forward to listening to and engaging in a dialog as part of coming public discussions of the Corinthian College proposal”.
