In case you haven’t noticed all the green and white yard signs and the political flyers floating around Brown Deer, Wanda Montgomery is actively campaigning for President of the Village Board of Trustees with the slogan, “Let’s Move Forward Together.” Just as she campaigned door-to-door prior winning the position of Trustee in April 2018, chances are Brown Deer residents will once again see Montgomery at their door requesting their vote.
Since her election to the Village Board, Montgomery has become concerned with the attitude of “business as usual” and the lack of oversight and follow-through in some areas. Having served in the past as the Executive Director of four non-profits and managing $200 million budgets and 400 staff, Montgomery feels that she will bring a high level of expertise and management to the position of Village President.
“I am a strong proponent of partnerships, getting entities to work together on a common goal,” she said.
“I would like to see more intergovernmental conversations and save and share resources and cooperation. As the current Director of Community Partnerships for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, I know how to do that.”
When elected as Village President, Montgomery said that she will stand for fiscal responsibility, due diligence in regard to the audits; and put a stop to questionable practices.
“I have been accused of being against the library, but I strongly support our fine Brown Deer Library,” she said. “However, I did vote against suddenly changing the library’s location because it came before the board for a vote in only one meeting without any prior discussion as it related to inspections, appraisals and negotiations on the price. Purchase of the proposed property appeared to be a done deal by the time it came to a vote and I don’t like to vote on matters with incomplete information, which have not been properly studied, with no public or professional input.”
Montgomery will participate in the Candidate Forum on Saturday, March 16 at 10:00 a.m. at the Tom and Lois Dolan Community Center, located at 4355 West Bradley Road.
