In-person absentee voting for the Nov. 2, 2010 General Election began in the City of Milwaukee on Monday, Oct. 4 and continue until Monday, Nov. 1. Voting will take place at the Frank P. Zeidler Municipal Building, located at 841 N. Broadway, Room 102. Voting hours are from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Fifteen-minute voter parking will be available along East Kilbourn Avenue.
Voter registration is also available for new Milwaukee voters or any person with an address and/or name change since last registering to vote. Any person registering to vote AFTER October 13, 2010, will need to bring a proof of residence document (such as a drivers license, Department of Transportation issued identification, utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, lease, or some other document issued by a unit of government) or provide a corroborating witness that can verify the person’s name and address.
In order to register and vote in the City of Milwaukee, individuals must be:
- A U.S. Citizen 18 years of age (on or before the election)
- A Milwaukee resident at their address for at least 10 days prior to the election.
- No longer serving on probation, parole or extended supervision for a felony conviction.
Absentee ballot voting by mail can also be requested by completing the absentee ballot application that is available on the Election Commission website (www.milwaukee.gov/election) or by submitting a written request to the City of Milwaukee Election Commission, 200 East Wells, Room 501, Milwaukee, WI 53202. Requestors must include their date of birth.
“Both in-person and bymail absentee voting allows Milwaukee residents with busy schedules or potential Election Day conflicts a convenient way to cast their ballots prior to the election,” said Neil Albrecht, Election Commission Deputy Director. “We encourage all eligible City of Milwaukee residents to vote and participate in this important democratic process.”
Offices on ballots in the City of Milwaukee will include Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, United States Senator, Representative in Congress, State Senator, Representative to the Assembly, County Sheriff and Clerk of Circuit Court.
“The lay out of the ballot and process for marking the ballot are very different than the Fall Primary. This ballot allows for “Straight Party Voting” versus the “Party Preference” ballot in the primary,” noted Albrecht. “We encourage voters to be familiar with the ballot and the voting process for a General Election. Sample ballots are available at the Municipal Building during in-person absentee voting, at voting sites on Election Day, and our Web site.”
Voting will also take place at all City of Milwaukee voting sites on Election Day, Tues., Nov. 2, 2010. All voting sites are fully accessible for people with disabilities and will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Residents are encouraged to confirm their voting site by visiting the City of Milwaukee Election Commission website or by calling 414-286-3491.
