The approach of each new school year is important and exciting for educators, as well as for students. This year, the Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC) is looking forward to strengthening partnerships between educators and our communities. We know that students can achieve more when we’re all working together. You can be sure we’re committed to doing our part.
Our members – the teachers and education support professionals in your hometowns – are dedicated to improving public schools and education for students across the state. That’s why WEAC is improving the quality of teaching in Wisconsin through opportunities such as ongoing training and mentoring programs. In the end, we understand that enthusiastic, dedicated educators are essential to a high-quality education. And that leads to strong communities for everyone.
We are also committed to increasing family and community engagement in our schools. This spring, WEAC hosted a first-of-its-kind statewide conference for more than 100 organizations on this important topic.
More recently, we brought together Wisconsin educators and parents to create Classroom Connections, a parent magazine that’s full of helpful tips for a successful school year. In this free publication, available at www.weac.org, Milwaukee School Safety Assistant Laura Vernon teaches you how to shut down bullies. Kenosha counselor Art Preuss helps you get your teen ready for graduation and beyond. And Wisconsin PTA President Roxanne Starks encourages you to become your child’s biggest cheerleader.
