A Guest Column by Ray Allen; Secretary, Department of Workforce Development
As more people find out about the many services available through our first two neighborhood Job Center Access Point events, more Milwaukee residents are stopping in to take advantage of the opportunity and are taking the first steps on the path to rewarding careers. I extend my appreciation to Parklawn Assembly of God, which hosted last week’s event; to Employ Milwaukee, where we launched the first Job Center Access Point event on September 13; and to The Milwaukee Urban League and UMOS, which are hosting our next two events.
At the Department of Workforce Development (DWD), we are dedicated to connecting job seekers to jobs, and by mobilizing and bringing our resources into Milwaukee neighborhoods, we are building awareness of our programs and services. Over one-third of the individuals who attended last week’s Job Center Access Point learned about the opportunity through word of mouth, which underscores the importance of encouraging family members and friends to attend.
Our staff is available to point you in the direction of valuable training and job opportunities, and we invite you to our next two Job Center Access Points: Tuesday, September 27, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Milwaukee Urban League, 435 West North Ave and October 5, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at UMOS, 2701 South Chase Avenue.
I am encouraged that many Milwaukee residents have visited our Job Center Access Points, and I look forward to seeing even more over the next two weeks. If you are unemployed or not currently part of the workforce, now is the time to take the steps toward good paying jobs.
